Latest Interior Design Trends

There’s no doubt that luxury, quality apartments are in high demand, and many buyers are people who are downsizing from large spacious family homes.  With that comes some perceptions on apartment living (i.e. no personal touches, everything is standardised etc.). However, this is not always the case, designers and architects are looking to provide quality, stylish living for apartment owners, so it’s important to not only be on trend, but also to predict the future trends.

So what are the current trends?  For apartment living, it’s important that the exterior looks stylish, timeless and suited to the environment – however, the interiors are where it’s at.  This is what will sell the dream and be aspirational to a customer considering a move to an apartment. Here are some of the latest trends:

  • Use textiles – rich velvets, wools and leathers can add texture and colour and really transform living spaces to individual tastes.
  • 2016 is about timber.  Darker timber such as walnut is making a comeback.  While it’s great as flooring, it’s also being used in veneers in kitchens to provide a moody style.
  • There is less need for wall to wall carpet now with designers opting for hard flooring, but using rugs as a feature.
  • Speaking of rugs, the use of a large rug can define an area and helps create space within an area.
  • For kitchens, we are seeing a darker moodier look, with metal detailing and oversized range hoods.  However, our love of clean white kitchens looks set to continue for some time.
  • Colour palettes are reflecting moody blues, ruby red with the classic black and white look continuing.

With designers looking to incorporate some of the trends above in today’s apartments, you can be sure that your apartment will not only be stylish, but will provide owners with a place to add your personal touches and create your haven.
